The Eye-Opening Experience of a Brand New Producer
San Antonio Boat and RV show 1/2014
Jean and her partner are brand new Producers in San Antonio, December 2013. They attending our training class and did their first show in January 2014 and I think their experience speaks for itself, read on….
My partner and I attended training with Dave and Jo Connot, and Harry Wilk, and left with such a great feeling that we knew we could really do this! Dave breezed through the making of the standard chair with such ease that he made us feel like pros! We were so confidant, in fact, that we booked our first show in what would be 3 weeks after receiving our jigs, templates, and wood. We dove in head first and began to build. I had several questions along the way, emailing and calling Dave often. In the subject line I began writing "dumb question of the day" yet Dave or Harry answered everything I asked and never made me feel that way. They've been amazing!
So, we booked the smallest space at the San Antonio Boat Show we were able to book and filled it with what I had been able to build in a short time. It wasn't until then, setting up for the show, that I thought -what have I done? Are we ready for this? "Deep breath and smile", I told myself. I was nervous as the weather was bad, roads closed due to icy conditions, very slow first day. Second day, we discussed what we needed to make to recoup our show expenses and what we would be content going home with. As the show opened and people began to wander around, we began to receive the most wonderful comments about the furniture. The most flattering was many people saying things like "I make furniture and this is very good quality" or "awesome craftsmanship".
We loved Dave's idea of the puzzles to keep kids occupied while the parents talked, then sat while waiting for their kids to put the puzzles together. It works like a charm. I will never go to a show without puzzles!
The furniture sold itself! Over and over we heard stories of rusting hardware and rotting wood. We used the selling points Eureka provided and the sales poured in! We have thousands of dollars in sales! Even better, we have meetings with several businesses we spoke with at the show, one water park who is interested in deck furniture for multiple cabins, a gentleman who owns several lodges, two retail locations interested in carrying our products! Also, the military affiliated organization Army Bass Anglers who support A Soldier's Child Foundation ordered 6 folding director's chairs with their logo on it to use in their display. They do multiple shows each year along with a lot of national and local tv coverage. They loved the furniture so much they asked if they could have literature to hand out as people were sure to ask about the chairs for their booth. That's huge! In addition to that, four of the soldiers who organize and travel with the group bought furniture for their personal use. As you can see in the picture, we are seated next to Direct TV. The owner was gracious enough to allow our choice of shows (Spurs were playing!). He came and chilled for a bit, ordered a glider and folding director's chair. I love bartering so thought I'd give it a try....how about a chair for advertising....he said...YES! One of his screens has ad slides. During the upcoming San Antonio rodeo we will be featured in his ads! That's 3 weeks of advertising that he sells for way more than our chairs at full retail value. Needless to say, I am happily overwhelmed by the results of our first show. I'm excited to see where this year goes.
I cannot say enough to thank you for the opportunity to do this the right way. The jigs and templates are great! The support from Dave and Harry, as well as the office staff, is invaluable. We checked wood and hardware prices, can't beat what Eureka offers. We are proof this works. Anyone can do this! Thank you, Harry Wilk. Thank you, Dave Connot. Thank you.
